Where we got our name...
It takes a little bit of a history lesson to explain our name. The British "Blue Lancer" Regiment was trapped and badly bloodied during Korean War in a desolate valley in southern Korea. Later, when the US Army established a base there, the Americans called it the Blue Lancer Valley. The Ist. Br. 12th Cavalry, which was first formed to enforce federal law in the American Southwest, was assigned there sometime later. And since the the 12th Cavalry insignia had a cactus on it to commemorate the cavalry's origins, a Lieutenant Colonel who was new to the Valley originated the "Blue Cacti, Sir" salute. We opened the cafe on Cinco de Mayo 1994, and we chose to use Blue Cactus Cafe as its name. Photo of the "Blue Lancer Valley". Lloyd Reese. 1954.
